Thomas Allen Morehouse, 69
ZANESVILLE - Thomas Allen Morehouse, 69, of Zanesville, passed away at 8:58 AM, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at The Beckett House, New Concord, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born Sept. 11, 1947, in Zanesville, a son of the late Thomas and Leona Dickson Morehouse. He graduated in 1965 from Maysville High School and was an Air Force veteran. Morehouse is a retired Zanesville City fireman and formerly owned and operated Morehouse Construction and Mr Sweep Chimney Cleaning. He coached 30 plus years for Maysville Youth League sports and Babe Ruth. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns and NASCAR.
His memberships include St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where he was a long time council member; charter member of AMVETS 1992; member of American Legion Post 1058; Muskingum County Veterans Hall of Fame; Springfield Lions; International Association of Fire Fighters; and a former member of Jaycees. He was a multi-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Disaster Relief Team that went to Slidell, La., for Hurricane Katrina.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Shirley Riggle Morehouse; three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Doug and Kristine Morehouse of Zanesville, Ben and Angie Morehouse of Zanesville and Scott Morehouse of Columbus; three daughters, Lora Morehouse and Rose Kessing of Zanesville and Margi Mackell of Auburn Hills, Mich.; one sister, Carol (Tom) Betts of Berea; three brothers, Terry (Teresa) Morehouse of San Antonio, Texas, Jim (Shirleen) Morehouse of Zanesville and Steve (Brenda) Morehouse of Bethel; seven grandchildren, Jordan Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Kate and Lauren Morehouse, Hallie Kimble, and Jack and Luke Morehouse; one great-granddaughter, Arianna Anderson; many nieces and nephews; and his two furry friends, Hoover and Little Dog.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Glenn and Esther Hoopes Riggle.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 27th and two hours prior to service at Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28th with Pastor Marjorie McDaniel Burnett officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer's Association, or the ABC Wilson Fund through the Zanesville Fire Department, in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
