Charles Edward Schilling

Charles Edward Schilling, 82 of Zanesville peacefully passed away in his sleep at 12:57 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at his home. Charles was born October 14, 1938 in Newark, Ohio, the son of Clemence and Ethel Schilling. He attended Newark Catholic High School, and then graduated from John Carroll University in 1960. He retired in 2005 after a 35 year career as a director with Ashland Chemical company, to which he daily commuted in Dublin, Ohio.
Charles was a dedicated member of St. Thomas Aquinas, perennially serving on many committees and the board of directors. Charles was active in the community with the zoning board of appeals and other voluntary functions with the city of Zanesville. He retired as a Captain in the U. S. Army Reserve.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee Schilling {nee Witchie}; his children, Charles Edward II (Dina), Joseph, and Michael (Chonladee Liamtrakul), and 11 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Clemence, Ethel, Mary, and William.
Visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave. A Roman Catholic Funeral mass will be celebrated 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. J.C.P. Sullivan as celebrant. Burial will conclude at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
