Dr. Joseph N. McElhaney, 86, of Zanesville died at 7:04 P.M. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Morrison House Genesis Hospice.
He was born on Thursday, June 18, 1931 in Cambridge, OH the son of Henry Harry and Mary McDermott McElhaney.
Dr. Joseph was a member of St. James Episcopal Church where he had served on the Vestry. He was also a Korean Conflict Navy Veteran with the Patrol Squadron VP-6. He was a graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatry in Cleveland and then practiced podiatry in Zanesville on Maple Ave. for close to 40 years. Joseph had served on the School Board for West Muskingum Schools where he also took care of the athletes in all the sports for over 20 years. He was a member of the local VFW Post 1058 and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Louise M. McElhaney whom he married September 2, 1956; a son, Joseph E. McElhaney of New York and a daughter, Diann (Jeffrey) Fish of Pickerington; and the loves of his life, his two granddaughters, Rachel & Lydia Fish and several nieces & nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Teri Evans and a brother Neil McElhaney.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday April 21, 2018 at the Bryan and Hardwick Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 P.M. at the St. James Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert E. Willmann as celebrant. Burial will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
