Willa Ruth Deveny

Willa Ruth Deveny, 78 of Zanesville died at 9:00 PM Monday, April 16, 2018 at her Residence under Hospice Care.

She was born on Thursday, November 23, 1939 in Zanesville, Ohio the daughter of Peter William and Ruth Cooper Sims Garich.

Willa Ruth was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She loved to dance and was a student With Marjorie Holzschuher for most of her life. A dedicated volunteer, in the 60's she volunteered with the Red Cross. She also volunteered at the Muskingum County Child Service from the70's until 2000 for which she received the Service to Mankind Award in 1994. Very active in Muskingum County Extension Homemakers until 1979. She was a board member and a judge at boxing matches for the Police Athletic League. She was office manager of PST which was established in 1979 by her husband Charley and Thomas Lear, until 2003. If you were lucky enough to receive a Christmas card from her you would know she loved to travel and had many adventures. She was cared for by a wonderful team of loving caregivers at her home during her final days.

She is survived by two Daughters, Traci (Ron) Couch and Mischka (Steve) Winland of Zanesville; two grandsons, Douglas (Michelle Straughter) Lee Mell II and Charles William Mell of Columbus; a great grandson Sebastian Mell; a brother Peter (Jean) W. Garich and several nieces and nephews.

Willa Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles J. "Charley" Deveny.

Friends may call 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. JCP Sullivan officiating. Burial will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Military Rd.
